Glutton for Fruit!

Hey all!

We all made it through Monday. Yeeeehaw!

I’m headed out to film some workouts for the World’s Best Bootcamp. (FYI Enlistment for Platoon 004 went off this past weekend and it was OFF THE HOOK! Totally awesome).

wbbc 4.26

I get to do 4 workouts today.

Four.

Twenty Minute.

High Intensity.

Workouts.

So, in case you never hear from me again, it was nice knowing you! G’bye!

HA….kidding. I’ll survive. But I may need to be pushed in a wheelchair tomorrow. Just saying. (Is it okay to say that again? I feel like it got really annoying for a while, but maybe it’s been gone long enough that it’s okay now? Yeah?)

My Obsession with Fruit

photo 3-2

I just thought I’d let everyone know that I’m obsessed with fruit. Grapes, grapefruits, anything that starts with grape, apples, strawberries, mango, blueberries, YOU NAME IT. I think that if my only option was to eat fruit for the rest of my life, I’d be a happy girl.

I know there are people out there that tell you not to eat fruit because of the sugar. Blah-dee-frickin-blah. I eat fruit. I ate fruit when I competed. I won’t give it up. SO THERE!

Anyways….I’m kind of just rambling today. Probably because I’m anticipating workout brain already.

Do you guys get workout brain? I do.

If you ask me something during a workout, 9 times out of 10 you will get a blank stare. The kind of stare that makes one wonder if there is anything upstairs. I assure you there is. Just not while I’m working out.

Workout Plan for the Week:

Tuesday (today): 4 HIIT Plyometric Workouts (yikes-a-rama)

Wednesday: DUHH…Rest day. (may do some bouldering if I feel up to it)

Thursday: Boxing (depending on how I feel)

Friday: Crossfit

Saturday: Hike or Lift

Sunday: Rest

As long as I get ample rest this week, I should be good.to.go.

Last but not least, this cute thing walked in the gym yesterday. And I basically stopped a conversation with a client and mauled this little guy. The client forgave me. How could anyone resist this?!

Ali!

Ali!

One of these days, Charlie will finally let me get a puppy. A little pressure never hurt, though, so please go harass him.

That’s all I’ve got for today folks! Time to go get my sweat on! Have a fantastic day!!

Do you love fruit?

What’s your favorite?! Come on tell me, tell me! I want to talk about fruit!

In Other News

My nephew started walking yesterday. All by himself!!! Do you know what that does to one’s heart strings?! If you have a nephew, then I’m sure you do. Especially one as cute as this…

Matty!

Matty!

In workout news, this week I’ve managed to do:

Monday: Killer leg workout! and some bouldering

I’m so sore from it still! I’ll definitely have to share this one with you guys…

Tuesday: Boxing and some bouldering

Wednesday: Chest/Back workout with my man.

Thursday: Hoping to get anything in. Might even do cardio. Busy day!

Friday: Nope, nada, negative

Saturday: Crossfit?

Sunday: Depends how Saturday goes….

We All Go Through It

My workouts this week were nothing crazy, but that’s just how it is sometimes. I can definitely tell you, I had to WORK myself into the gym most days this week. It truly does not come easy to me all the time. I almost skipped climbing on Monday and almost skipped boxing on Tuesday. But I just went. Grumbling the whole way. And guess what? I survived, it turned out to be awesome, and I’m happy I went. Wasn’t easy though!

I say this to tell you guys, WE ALL GO THROUGH IT. People act like I’m just always ON my game and I don’t go through the feelings of just wanting to be lazy and not work out. I’m not bionic guys. Trust me…I almost walked out of boxing a few times Tuesday night. Seriously. But I knew I’d feel MUCH worse if I walked out than if I just stayed and toughed out the class. I was right. I ended up getting great workouts even though I was dreading almost all of them.

Like I, (and everyone else), always say…..90% is just SHOWING UP. Just put on your workout clothes…GET TO THE GYM (or park or garage or wherever you do your workouts). Just START. Chances are that once you actually get going, it won’t be too bad. There ARE times when it is okay to rest. When you’re too sore, haven’t slept enough, need to relax…..but we all know the difference. Sometimes, you just have to push yourself.

Thanks for sticking around with my less than stellar blogging schedule this week! I promise things will go back to normal and you can read my rambling on a more regular basis. 😀

Questions for today:

1. Do you travel often?

2. Do you work out when you travel?

Friday Fun!

Happy Friday everyone!

I’m so excited for this weekend to just relax and not have any plans! The last few weekends have been fun, but busy. I’m ready to just chill out and do what I feel like doing at that moment. Maybe some paddleboarding, hiking, or a picnic!

Let’s recap some workouts from the week!

On Wednesday, my friend grabbed me and asked me to join her workout. I had some time to spare, so I jumped right in. The programming here was minimal reps, for maximum strength. The rep scheme for that was six sets of 1,2,3,1,2,3 reps. We chose 5 different exercises to do this with and in between every single set, we did 10 KB Swings.

-KB Clean and Press (12kg)

-RDL (155lbs)

-Lateral Lunge w/ KB (8kg)

-Chin Ups (bodyweight)

-KB Windmills (8kg)

It was a tough workout and took us almost 90 minutes! But…300 KETTLE BELL SWINGS LATER…we were done. I used a 20kg KB for the swings.

I was so exhausted from the workout that I actually ended up taking a nap from about 7-8:39pm. I got up for a bit and then was OUT.

Thursday, I took a boxing class. I LOVE boxing. Hitting the mits and hearing that “crack” is soooo much fun. The class is held in the basement of our gym, so it gets HOT. I always leave completely soaked. It’s like Hot Boxing haha.

Today, I’m planning on taking a Crossfit class. I’m too scared to look at the WOD because I might chicken out. Guess I’ll see what it is when I get there! 😀

What are your plans for the weekend?

What was your FAVORITE workout of the week?

Celebrity Fight Night 2014 + Workouts for the Week

Holy exhaustion. Is it Friday yet?

No, really…is it? Haha! What a weekend!!! Charlie and I headed to Phoenix this past weekend (yes, again) to attend Celebrity Fight Night XX. If you’re unfamiliar with it, you can check out their website. Basically, this is a yearly event that raises money for Muhammad Ali’s Parkinson’s Disease Center. In their 20 years of existence, they have raise over $95 million dollars. $8 million of that was raise this past Saturday night. Such an amazing event and cause!

This year’s attendance included Robert DeNiro, Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire, Michael Buble and so many more! Michael Buble was definitely my favorite performance of the night, but Robert DeNiro’s speech wasn’t too shabby either.

We got dressed up…

My Nephew Matty

Isn’t he hands down, the cutest thing alive? I can’t handle it. Sweetest, happiest baby on the planet!!!

A great weekend, for sure, but Monday proved just how much I didn’t work all weekend! Haha. I did a LOT of catching up, but I’m happy to say that I got SO much done, the rest of the week should be a bit more manageable. For Monday’s workout, I did sprints on the treadmill and did 20 minutes on the stairmill. It was about all my brain could handle today.

Here’s what’s on my workout agenda for the week:

Tuesday: Boxing

Wednesday: Climbing & HIIT

Thursday: Full Body Heavy Lift

Friday: Crossfit + Climbing

Saturday: Hike

Sunday: Rest

Of course this is tentative, but it helps me to see it written down to hold myself accountable.

If you could see any band/artist perform, whether they’re dead or alive, who would it be?

Workout Plan – Week of 4/7-4/13

This week is moving right along! Hope everyone made it through their Monday and is ready for a great Tuesday! I know I am.

Last night, I deviated from what I had planned to do for my workout. Original plan=climb and track workout. Actual=Leg Workout and 20 minutes on the stair mill. Total change right?! My day got busier than I thought it would be, so I knew the track wasn’t going to happen. I did a quick 20 minutes on the stair mill between meetings just to get my body moving and sweating, and then Charlie agreed to meet me for a workout in the evening. My upper body is a bit shot from Friday and Saturday’s workouts, so Leg day it was!

We did:

-4 Sets of Heavy Hip Thrusts

-3 Sets of Burpee-DB Walking Lunge-Burpee combo (5 burpees, 10 DB walking lunges, 5 burpees, 10 DB walking lunges)

-3 Sets of Leg Press superset with Switch Jumps

It was a good one!

Here’s my tentative workout plan for this week!

I’ll be traveling on Thursday afternoon, so the weekend may be a bit sporadic. We shall see!

Tuesday: Boxing and Climbing

Wednesday: CrossFit

Thursday: Rest or something light before I travel

Friday: Full Body Workout

Saturday: Rest

Sunday: Full Body Workout

Are you a “stick to the plan” type of person or do you do whatever you feel like/whatever fits?

I tend to be a bit of both. I’ll stray from what type of workout I do and switch that up, but when it comes to the actual workout, if I write down what I’m doing, then I’m not leaving the gym until I’ve completed all sets, exercises, and reps!!

Weekend Pictures and Recap

Here we go again! Another week, another Monday, another chance to do it right! Right?! Right!

Can you tell I’m extra hyped this morning? It’s been a good weekend, and I’m ready to tackle the week.

I had a weird stomach thing going on last week (thought I had an ulcer, turns out I don’t, but not really sure what’s going on!). I tried to take it a bit easy, but oddly enough, my stomach didn’t hurt at all while working out. Maybe 24/7 workouts is what the doctor should have prescribed?! 😉

Friday

I spent the day working per usual. When I finished, I headed to CrossFit High Voltage in Burbank. I love this CF box! It’s not close to where I live, but the people there are AWESOME….so I drive.

We worked on hang cleans and push press/push jerks and then went right into the WOD. This WOD literally DOMINATED my shoulders. Here’s what we did:

15 Min. WOD

-200m run then,

-Dumbbell Push Press to failure

-200m run every time you fail.

So what does that mean exactly? It means that anytime you have to put the weights down, you have to run. And then you come back and do more push clomid-info until you can’t hold the weight up anymore. And again. And again.

I ended up getting 111 reps with 25lb Dumbbells! Holy shoulders!!!! I couldn’t lift my arms over my head after that.

Friday evening, I was in bed by 7:30pm watching I Love Lucy re-runs. I love that show. I still think it’s hilarious and try to follow my mom’s lead in this particular life lesson: When it doubt, ask yourself, what would Lucy and Ethel do?

lucyethel_i_love_lucy-300x225

Trust me, works every time. 😀

Saturday

We woke up early and headed over to see some friends. We hung out for a bit and then went to a Mexican Restaurant in the valley called Casa Vega. The chips and salsa were on point (my favorite mexican dish 😉 ) and the salad I ordered was pretty great too. It had:

-Grilled Chicken

-Black Beans

-Avocado (an entire half of one! love when they give you a REAL serving 🙂 )

-Tomatoes

-Onions

-Lettuce

It was perfect with a little salsa on top in lieu of dressing.

My salad looked a lot like this, minus the cheese:

mexican salad

After the big lunch, Charlie and I let our food digest a bit before heading to my home gym, Iron, for a workout.

We did a modified version of Cindy:

20 minute AMRAP

-3 Chin Ups

-10 Push Ups (i did Lemon Squeezers because my triceps were DEAD from Friday’s WOD)

-15 Squats

I ended up getting through 10 rounds plus 1 more chin up. That’s 31 chin ups! For me, that is a lot of volume. I’m getting so much better at pull ups/chin ups and I’m loving it!!!

We didn’t let our food digest quite enough (he ate a GIANT burrito the size of a baby), so when we went to do treadmill sprints, neither of us could finish due to side cramps. Haha, ya win some, ya lose some. You win, Casa Vega, you win.

Sunday

Let’s call this my day of clutziness.

I parked in a fire zone, dropped my phone and broke my screen, got a parking ticket in Beverly Hills, and had to go back to the phone repair store twice to get it fixed.

Let’s just leave Sunday at that. (Of course I did my Sunday evening work, per usual.)

I’m ready for a great week of workouts this week! I’ll have my workout plan up tomorrow, but for today, I plan on running some sprints at the track and getting some climb time in at Rockreation.

1. What’s on your workout agenda this week?

2. What is the HARDEST form of exercise for you to do? (i.e. running, sprinting, lifting weights, plyometrics, etc.)

EXCITING NEWS!!!!

Hello lovelies!

I’m working away this morning. Something about Thursdays….I like them. Maybe because it means the week is almost over.

Life

My work life has been really great these past few weeks. I’m feeling good, productive, and ambitious. Gotta harness that when it’s there! The companies I work with are also in a growing stage, which is pretty exciting. I take a lot of pride in not only my work, but also the companies I work for. It’s fun to see hard work manifest and become something bigger.

My workouts have been going pretty well too…..aside from the fact that I randomly was sick on Saturday evening through Sunday night. Felt about 75% normal on Monday, so it really didn’t hold me back much. I worked out Monday and then again Tuesday….but come Wednesday a cough snuck in. Grrr. As long as this leaves as quickly as my random sickness, I’ll deal with it. 😉

Exciting News

Okay, so I mentioned a while back that I was working on putting together an e-book and that it would be ready soon.

Well guys……it’s ALMOST THERE!!!!! I just need to put the finishing touches on it.

Fit Lizzio’s Fitness To-Go!

Cover

This e-book includes 10 workouts that can be done ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. It is the PERFECT little book to bring on a vacation or work trip, or for any other time too! You can gift it to friends or family, or keep it for yourself ;-).

All of these workouts take LESS THAN 30 MINUTES. So now your “i don’t have time” and “i don’t belong to a gym” excuses have been extinguished. 😀

The e-book is $1.99 and I expect to have it ready to go May 1st!

I’m so excited to share this with you guys! It’s my first e-book and I would LOVE to get your feedback and results. I’ll share more details about that part of it later. Hint hint: prizes!

Workouts

Since I did a full body workout on Tuesday instead of boxing as I had planned, I’m going to take a boxing class tonight, followed by some climb time at Rockreation! I’m still planning on hitting up the CrossFit gym on Friday for the WOD and then we’ll see what the weekend brings!

Hope you’re all having a great week!

Workout Recap and Weekend Getaway HELP!!

This week has been full of some awesome workouts, so let’s get right to it!

Workout Recap

Monday: I did a 15 minute HIIT on the treadmill. It’s amazing how much 15 minutes can make you sweat and curse. I think they go hand in hand. I also did some bouldering at the rock climbing gym.

I alternated between 6.5 and 9.0 mph on the treadmill and shared my MFT upon completion.

Tuesday: I walked on the treadmill while waiting for Charlie, and then I put us both through some hell

Here’s what we did:

3 sets of: Squat/Sled/KB Swing combo (this video is old, but this is what it is:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTuCIGFL1qE

3 sets of: 5 Burpee Pull Ups (with full push up and on a very high bar that required a lot of pulling up!!!) super set with 10 Medicine Ball Thrusters (18 lbs)

3 sets of: 10 Push Press (45 lbs) superset with 5 Ninja Jumps

This workout looked easier on paper than it was. I tend to do that a lot…..

Wednesday: Bouldering. Instead of what I normally do, which is climb hard and take good long breaks, I set out to be there for an hour with minimal breaks. None of my friends could go, so I decided it would be the best use of my time. Damn it was hard! Climbing gives you a pump like nothing else.

Thursday: Boxing. I’m so glad I got back into this. I almost didn’t go because I’ve got a big work project going on, but knew I would feel much better if I did. I was right and left a sweaty, soaking, hot mess. It was glorious.

My plan for today? Crossfit 14.5! I missed 14.4 because I was out of town, so I figure i’ll try this one out. I may have to scale down the thrusters, but we’ll see what happens.

This weekend:

Even though I was out of town last weekend, I feel like going out of town again! I love to travel and do little weekend trips, but haven’t been taking them lately. I made it a goal to change that. I’m leaving tonight and still don’t know where I’m going.

Should I go to:

1. Santa Barbara

2. Solvang

3. Dana Point

Help me decide! Leave me your choice in the comments, por  favor. 🙂

9 Random Things & My First Thought

Why not 10? Because I guess I’m just not that random this week. 😀

I had a nice trip to Arizona this past weekend and am just now catching up on life……And Dexter.

My First Thought™ movement

GUYS!! I started something new this week. It’s my way of painting a picture of the REALITY of working out…all in good fun.

I call this “My First Thought.” I posted about it here on Facebook.

Basically, you post the first thought that comes to your head after you finish your workout. Before you have a chance to catch your breath.

Today, MFT was “FUCK 15 min. HIIT!!!!!” Sorry for the language, but it’s the truth!!!!

Tag yours on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with #myfirstthought

Moving on…

I thought I’d mix it up a bit today and tell you 9 random things that have been swirling around in this little brain of mine. Without further adieu…

1. I LOVE DEXTER. I understand, I’m about 8 years late to the party, but this show is AWESOME!! I can’t watch it alone because it scares me haha. Also because Charlie would kill me if I watched it without him.

dexter4

2. Nothing beats an Arizona sunset. I know I live in beautiful Santa Monica and we get some gorgeous skies and weather, but there is something about a painted desert sky. The evenings in Arizona smell different and feel different. It’s hard to describe really, but I do miss them!

3. My hands are a WRECK. Between metformin-online, weight lifting, pull ups, and more, my hands are just completely torn up. Any tips for this? I need the callouses to protect my hands while climbing, but I’m not sure how to keep the callouses smoother???

4. I have a slight obsession with grapes. It is not uncommon for me to buy a bag of grapes and eat most of the bag in one sitting. Grapes are like crack to me. It’s a problem I’m not ready to deal with yet, so save your interventions!!! Charlie may or may not have found a rotten grape under the couch today……wasn’t me!!!

Oh hey there....;-)

Oh hey there….;-)

5. I haven’t done steady state cardio in months (aside from 2 or 3 hikes.) I did 25 minutes walking on the treadmill the other day, but it was slow and I was doing it because I had time to kill and didn’t want to sit. Why did I ever do so much cardio? I’m leaner and I don’t have to do boring workouts. It’s pretty awesome. Not that there’s anything wrong with cardio, it just wasn’t doing it for me. I like the occasional run, but I’d rather throw heavy weights around and climb on walls. 😀

Hello shoulder!

Hello shoulder!

6. I’ve been boxing recently and I am so glad to be back doing it! I used to take a boxing class twice a week for at least a year. Actually, if you read the blog in the beginning, you may even remember that! I loved it SO much, but just didn’t continue it when I moved to Santa Monica. I started a few weeks ago and it feels really good to hit the mitts again!

7. I finally started grinding my own coffee beans. It makes a HUGE difference in the taste! I guess my dad was right all of these years. He has me grinding a special concoction of two different types of beans. It’s magical and makes early mornings much more bearable. I’m also spending less money on my beloved coffee from my favorite coffee shop. I still go! But not 2-3 times per day. :-0

8. This room. I want to decorate my room like this!! I just might make a few trips to Home Goods this weekend…..

Does the dog come with it?!

Does the dog come with it?!

9. The Selfie song!! OMG. It is so annoying…but…i have to admit…..every time that damn song came on this weekend, my little brother and I would start dancing in the car. We also danced to the YMCA in the car, but that’s besides the point….

LOL!!

LOL!!

Tell me two random things about you!

Leg Workout + Kettlebells

Hey friends! Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start!

Monday morning, me and several million of my friends woke up to a good shake here in Southern California. It was definitely the biggest earthquake I’ve ever felt, but by no means was it bad compared to the devastations that have happened around the world. I woke up from the jolt and in trying to wake up my boyfriend, accidentally punched him in the face. Luckily that was the only injury that took place. (Sorry babe! ;-))

The best part of the earthquake was definitely this…..

Makes me laugh every time! Thank you Captain Obvious! We all felt it!

Anyways, moving on!

Yesterday, I did a doozy of a workout. It was a mixture of legs and back with a hint of some kettle bell action. I LOVE kettle bells. They are so versatile. They take some time to get used to, and it is helpful to have someone who knows what they’re doing show you the ropes (errr…bells). Once you DO learn how to use them, they can be used for just about anything.

Here’s what I did Monday:

The Workout

The Workout

For the squats, I did sets of 15, 12, 10, 8, and 6, increasing the weight each set. I worked my way up to 115 pounds.

For the pull ups, I did sets of 5, 5, 3, and then switched to chin ups and did 3 and 3.

For the rest of the exercises, I did sets of 10-12 reps of each.

I used 12kg for the one arm KB Snatches and 16kg for the KB Swings

This workout definitely kicked my butt! Loved that I went from a slower paced heavy lift, to a faster pace burnout. Had  a good sweat going by the end!

Here’s my plan for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: Boxing and Bouldering

Wednesday: HIIT and Bouldering

Thursday: CrossFit and a Functional Workout

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Hike

Sunday: Rest

I’m traveling to Phoenix once again this weekend, so my workouts Friday – Sunday will be whatever I can get in. I will, of course, have to make a visit to my old stomping grounds (aka the Mecca of Scottsdale). I’m planning on resting on Friday and Sunday, but if I decide to drive back Monday, I’ll probably move my rest day to Monday.

Do you use Kettle Bells?

If you have, what are your favorite Kettle Bell exercises?

If you haven’t, would you like some videos to help you learn?
