Snowed In Workout

Good morning peeps! In case you’re curious about the title of this post, I am currently NOT snowed in. In fact, it’s been about 75 and sunny here the last few days, but I’ll stop there before someone throws a tomato at me. 😀 (but before you do, there’s a workout at the end of this post that you can do anywhere with ZERO equipment..woot!)

BUT FIRST…let me talk about me haha.

Random Tidbits

-I started training at a powerlifting gym near LAX (Game Time Strength) and it is awe.some. It’s nice to be in an environment like that (I love the old school garage gym feel) and the people there are super cool.

Here’s a video of me doing Bench Press with 105×10 with 3 boards. I’m working my way up and hope to hit a 135lb bench press in the near future!

-In other news, we have our very last Rockstar Fitness™ Boot Camp at Six:02 this Sunday! It’s been such a fun month with these people and I love seeing new faces every week! After this weekend, we’ll be back at IRON Santa Monica every Saturday at 10am.

10575295_10153812234587508_1933510686999326018_o

-I recently started looking into Masters programs. I guess I’ve been out of school long enough to not remember how much it sucks haha. I’ve been finding that I want to learn more about psychology and more specifically, the dynamics of organizations in regards to psychology. I still have a lot to do before this actually starts (the GRE is 1st on my list, followed by actually applying to schools!), but I’m excited to do this. It wasn’t something I EVER planned on doing, but yet, here I am. Life is funny like that, huh?

-I’m headed to MAUI next week!!! WOOHOO! My awesome boss is taking our team on the trip of a lifetime, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve never been to any part of Hawaii, so this will be a whole new experience (if you have any advice on things to do, send them my way)!

-This is also random, but it is on my mind constantly and I can’t stress it enough. For anyone that believes lifting weights and getting exercise is just about the body…oh, how wrong you are. I would actually argue that the affects it has on your life OUTSIDE of the gym is far greater than in the gym. You cannot cheat, you cannot have someone do it for you, you cannot become better without putting in the work, and the list goes on. It builds patience, dedication, character, humbleness, and accountability. It builds the mind, really. Sure, it builds your muscles too, but I’d say that’s just a side effect compared to the impact it has on your life in general.

Snowed In Workout

While I may not be in the snow, I know so many of you are! I actually did this workout yesterday morning while my dog ran around the park, so I thought I’d share since I didn’t need any equipment aside from a tabata timer (I just used an app on my phone…there are plenty to choose from, any of them will be fine).

Workouts + Rockstar Fitness Bootcamp + Cool Quote

Hey! Thanks for the awesome feedback on yesterday’s post. I’m happy to be back.

I’ll admit, getting back into “real-life” mode after so much time off has been a little difficult, but I’m also glad the holiavodart-dutasteride are over.

It’s been raining here in LA today (think apocalypse), so aside from training my clients this morning, I’m trying to stay indoors until it’s time to workout.

I believe an update on the workout front is due!

-I’ve been hitting it really hard and am loving the results of the work I’m putting in.

-I hit a 305×5 PR on hip thrusts last week (video below)

-I’m sitting at around 165/170×3 for back squats.

Screen Shot 2016-01-05 at 12.48.47 PM

-Deadlifts have been about 205×5 for multiple sets.

-I hit a 100×5 bench press for 2 sets last week for another PR.

Focusing on getting strong has been such a game-changer for me. It’s a change I made over a year ago, but it’s really made a difference in how I view my workouts and myself. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care what I looked like. Of course, I still do. But I’m much more forgiving these days. I appreciate what my body does for me and I love the new muscles I’ve added. That trumps my focus on aesthetics ten-fold. (And as a bonus I can get away with eating a lot more and still maintaining my weight)

Rockstar Fitness bootcamp is back for the new year and we’re kicking it off with a month-long series at Six:02 Santa Monica! Our first class was this past Sunday and it was SO much fun!

Cool Quote

I was debating a purchase with my mom and my brother the other day and my mom told me a quote her grandfather used to say. It resonated with me and I wanted to share it because it applies to so many aspects in life:

“$10 won’t make me poor. $10 won’t make me rich”

In terms of fitness and health, one workout won’t make you fit, one meal won’t make you fat and vice versa.

Your consistent habits will ultimately shape what your life looks like.

I thought this was pretty cool, so I wanted to share it with you guys.

I’ll be back Thursday with a fun workout for you guys! Hint: BOOTY

Q of the Day

What is your #1 reason you workout?

FitLizzio Experiment UPDATE + Weekend Fun

Hey, HEY!

How’s your Monday treating you?

Mine is quite divine if I may say so! I LOVE productive Mondays because they set the tone for the week.

I trained a client early this morning, got my own workout in, and then got started on work. It’s a busy time for us right now, so I’m being very diligent about keeping lists and calendars to make sure I get everything done on time.

FitLizzio Experiment – Day 20

Guys, I am almost done with the 21 Day Clutch! It’s been a really fun experience and I can’t wait to give you a FULL recap (progress photos and all) this week!

IMG_8526 IMG_8527

Remember when I said I didn’t really like the workouts? Well, I’ve been getting more accustomed to them. They’re still not my favorite way to push myself, but I’ve come to enjoy them. I’ll likely continue to do them once per week when I’m finished with the program.

Which brings me to my next thought: Sticking with something. It’s interesting to me how my attitude towards the program has morphed over the last 20 days. I’ve gone from super stoked, to somewhat bored, to seeing results and getting excited, to wondering how to incorporate this way of training into my regular training schedule. Total 180, right?!

It proves that even though something might not SEEM like the right thing, if you stick with it, it might just become something you like. While sometimes that won’t be the case, it is something I will keep in mind going forward.

This is by far my favorite part about doing challenges. I love learning new things and seeing what I’m capable of doing. I love finding out more about myself. It’s amazing how much we don’t know! You always hear that you learn about yourself when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, but it’s a really hard concept to grasp until you do it. I haven’t pushed myself outside of my comfort zone in far too long when it comes to working out, so this was really fun and motivating.

Look out for a post in the next few days for #allthethings related to the first installment of the FitLizzio Experiment: 21 Day Clutch.

Weekend Fun

This past weekend, my friend Torri and I launched Rockstar Fitness™ Boot Camp! Quest Nutrition was our sponsor and it was SUCH a fun day! Our class went really well and everyone loved it! I can’t wait for next Saturday!

Our OFFICIAL Mascot: Oscar the Boxer

Our crazy group!

The rest of the weekend wasn’t quite as exciting, but was just what I needed: time with my pup, time with my man, and relaxation.

We went to breakfast at IHOP on Sunday morning (and of course, we brought Oscar).

IMG_8512

We followed that up with coffee, of course, and then decided to hang out by the pool for a bit.

It was a perfect day outside!

Afterwards, we went and saw Spy with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. SO funny! I love MM and both Charlie and I really enjoyed it.

We came home and watched a few episodes of Better Call Saul (we just started it…so far so good!) while we ate dinner, and then I was so exhausted that I headed straight to bed.

THE END.

Question of the Day

1. What do you LOVE about boot camps?

2. What do you HATE about boot camps?

Memorial Day Weekend + FitLizzio Experiment Update

Happy Hump Day friends!

This week seems to be flying since most of us had Monday off. It was nice to have a few days without any real responsibilities!

Saturday was spent running errands, working out, and taking Oscar to not one, but TWO different dog parks. He’s one spoiled pup!

boxer dogs

Oscar and his girlfriend Hope.

On Sunday, Charlie joined me for a workout and then we tackled unpacking the rest of our boxes from moving, and getting our apartment a bit more organized. It feels sooooo much nicer now!

Sunday evening, we headed to Charlie’s friends house for a Memorial Day party. He has a few dogs, so we brought Oscar. He had a BLAST running around with the other dogs and picking up people’s scraps of food throughout the night. They had live music in the living room, tons of food, and a good mix of people. We loved the live music, but Oscar was not into it and stuck with us the whole time they were playing.

Since I’m doing the 21 Day Clutch, my diet is a bit limited. I ate before we went and then ate a hamburger patty with ketchup and mustard while I was there. I waited until I got home to eat the rest of my dinner. (update on the FitLizzio Experiment below).

MONDAY

Monday was technically a day off, but I had a few things on my agenda.

I headed over to an oral surgeon’s office first thing in the morning to have a consultation about getting my wisdom teeth out.(yes, i still have them, hence all the wisdom ;-)). Unfortunately they’ve been bothering me a bit lately, so I’ll be having them removed in about 2 weeks. Eek!!!

After my appointment, I got a quick workout in before training a client at the gym. Once I was done, I headed home to relax with my boys for the rest of the evening.

Fit Lizzio Experiment Day 8

So far the 21 Day Clutch has been going pretty well! I have been sticking to the diet for the most part (had a few minor slip ups), and have stuck to the workout portion 100%. I feel good and am seeing changes, but I do have some initial reactions from my first full week on this.

1. I don’t like this style of working out very much. While the workouts kick my butt, they aren’t “fun” to me like my normal workouts. It’s getting me out of my comfort zone and all, but I definitely DO NOT look forward to them. Oddly enough, I don’t mind the HIIT sessions, but the “lifting” sessions (i use parentheses because it isn’t really lifting. there are some weights involved, but most of it is bodyweight) just aren’t my thing. It’s a LOT of exercises and a LOT of sets and it just gets old quickly. This is why I’m such a big proponent of finding something you like, because I can totally see how hard it would be to stick to this long-term, seeing as I don’t enjoy it very much.

2. The diet is a little too skimpy. I mentioned that I needed to bulk it up a bit for myself, but if someone was doing this without that type of knowledge, I feel it could be a problem. She recommends 1g of Protein per pound of bodyweight, which is fine, but only .5 g of Carbs per pound of bodyweight. For me, that would mean 75g of carbs per day. That is just nowhere near enough. I need at least 150g at a minimum.

3. I do like the HIIT sessions. They last about 25 minutes and go by pretty quickly. I’ll probably incorporate these into my workouts even after the 21 days is over.

Overall, so far I do like this program and I think it’s a good little reset/ass-kicker. However, I’m reallllly excited to get back to my normal heavy lifting. I’ve done a couple of sets of heavy hip thrusts and deadlifts here and there (because I just can’t stay away), but for the most part I haven’t done any heavy lifting. Either way, it’s only 21 days and it’s definitely a good “push” for me to work hard and grind. It’s exactly what I needed right now, so I’m glad I’m doing it.

Hope you all have a great rest of your day!! See you soon!

BLEND Retreat 2015: Part 1

gnarly nutrition

xenical orlistatHey friends (new and old)!

I just got back from BLEND Retreat and OMG, it was such a blast! Can we do it again next weekend?

2015_attend_01

If you’re not familiar, here is what BLEND Retreat is (from their website):

The BLEND Retreat (named so because we wanted to combine “blogger” with “friend”) is a relaxed, laid-back retreat for healthy living, food and fitness bloggers from across the world. Instead of focusing on seminars and speakers, the focus will be on friendship and having a weekend away to get to know one another in real life.

That description sums it up perfectly! I made tons of new friends, did some fun workouts, was introduced to some new companies, was RE-introduced to some companies that have morphed over the years into healthier products, and had an overall amazing time in the mountains.

I have TONS of pictures, so get ready for it….

Friday morning, my friend Tedi & I got up at the crack of dawn (3:45am to be exact) to catch a 5:50am flight to Denver. I spent 15 hours moving on Thursday, so I pretty much felt like a wet noodle. Oh well!

blend retreat

We arrived in Denver around 9:30am and we were STARVING. Since check-in wasn’t until about 2:30pm, we decided to go to Downtown Denver for some breakfast. We ate at Snooze and it was SO good.

snooze breakfastIt was also awesome to NOT pay LA prices for food. Our breakfast was $18 for both of us! Score!(In LA, it would have been $30).

downtown denver

After we ate, we walked around a bit and then decided to head up to Boulder. We hopped in the Uber and had an interesting conversation with our driver. He was from Nepal and was telling us all about the devastation there, about his family that still lives there, and the stuff the media doesn’t tell you. It was very interesting hearing a different perspective of everything.

We arrived in Chautauqua Park (where the retreat was being held) around 12:30pm and it was raining. In Boulder, apparently it rains on and off a lot but as quickly as it’s pouring, it can be sunny and blue skies just moments later. Pretty cool!

We ended up just hanging out on the camp grounds for a bit before it was time to check in. If you ever have the chance to go to Chautauqua, I highly recommend it! It was such a gorgeous spot with hiking trails within walking distance, a general store (with cute little xenical orlistat, food, coffee, and toiletries), a dining hall that was open all day, and lots of cute little cabins!

Around 2:30pm, it was time to check in. We walked through the expo a bit and got to try free samples and meet the ambassadors from the various companies.

blend retreat

General Mills was there (the lovely Tina of Carrots n Cake was representing) and had a full on make-your-own trail mix bar! So cool! I am pretty sure I put a little of everything in mine. I couldn’t resist!

general millsgeneral mills

After walking through the expo, talking to the various companies, and meeting other bloggers, I decided I needed to get a workout in. I was tired from moving and traveling and new a workout would give me a much-needed energy boost.

I ended up grabbing the yoga mat that we were given upon check-in and finding a spot on the grass to do a quick workout. I pulled a workout from Rockstar Fitness™ Tour Edition and it totally kicked my butt! I wanted to quit about 3/4 of the way in but decided that if I’m telling other people to do these workouts, I better finish them myself ha!

I showered up and then it was time for cocktail hour, dinner and dessert! The spread was AMAZING! Appetizers with Sizzlefish salmon and 34 Degrees crackers, WaNu cocktails, Arctic Zero dessert and more!

After dessert, we headed back to our cabin and just crashed. It was such a fun first day, but I think Saturday may have even been better….

Stay tuned for Part 2!

Weekend in Park City + Rockstar Fitness™ Workout!

Good morning!

I promise I’ll be back to a regular blogging schedule soon…just trying to figure this whole “life balance” thing out. Know what I mean? 🙂

This past weekend, I flew up to Park City to hang with my bestie! We’ve literally been best friends since we were in 2nd grade (I hated her before that haha), and since I’ve lived in LA, we haven’t really gotten to spend too much quality time together. Since she just moved up there, I figured it was the perfect time to fix that!

IMG_7854

I had never been to Park City (or Utah in general), so I was super excited about this trip!

The people in Park City and SLC are SO nice. It was such a nice stop-ed-info of pace from LA. The views were GORGEOUS, and it even snowed a little bit on Sunday!

IMG_7878

We ate good food, laughed, did some yoga at her store (lululemon), and just had a blast getting to know the city. I can’t wait to go back!

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Happy Tuesday!

I apologize for the sporadic posts lately…I’ve been beyond BUSY lately, and I’m just trying to do it all!

Today I’ve got a bunch of random things floating around in my head, so I figured I’d just compile them into a post of random thoughts and the latest happenings in my life!

– I am the type of person that always feels like I need to finish things by the end of the day. This means if I’m given 20 tasks, then I try to figure out a way to do them all that day. This is both a blessing and a curse. I’m a REALLY hard worker and I GSD (get sh&t done) like a MFer! On the other hand, I stress myself out SO much trying to tackle everything. Perfect example, my new ebook: Rockstar Fitness™ Tour Edition. I’m SO excited to release this. I’ve put a TON of work into this project and it’s seriously AWESOME (and pre-sale starts on Wednesday!). On the other hand, it just seems like a never ending project at times. Of course, I know that it will all be worth it, but some nights as I’m working away, I just want to give up on everything. It’s hard to be open about that, as I sometimes feel that people assume I enjoy what I do 100% of the time. I do enjoy it a lot, but I have many moments where I just feel overwhelmed and want to just quit. Sometimes the beach bum life just sounds really tempting. Anyways, I hate to be a negative Nancy, but sometimes it’s good to just be real with people about the struggles of every day life. We all have them. Loving your work doesn’t mean you love every minute of it and it’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed at times.

FullSizeRender(2)

-My body is totally exhausted this week! Charlie, Oscar and I went on a 6 mile hike in Malibu on Sunday and it actually made me pretty sore. I typically don’t get sore from hiking, but I also have been focusing on strength training, conditioning (usually with KB’s), and track workouts as of late, so I guess mixing it up with a hike really got to me! I still find it interesting that endurance-wise, I still feel just as good as I did when I was doing cardio all the time. I don’t breathe any harder now than I did when I was doing cardio #8daysaweek. It just goes to show that steady state cardio is not the only way to keep your cardiovascular conditioning in check!

IMG_7677

-I have two cool trips planned in the next month! I’m going to Park City in a few weeks to hang with my BFF (literally since I was a kid) since she’s moving there! Then in May, I’ll be heading to the BLEND Retreat in Boulder, CO! I’m excited for some time in the mountains!

2015_attend_01

-I got to see my favorite band ever play last week and it was everything I could have asked for!! 36 Crazyfists (yes, i’m a total metal head in case you didn’t know) has been my favorite band for 11 years. I’m a total die-hard fan and I’m still working on fulfilling my dream of visiting Alaska AND seeing them play in their hometown (Anchorage).

IMG_7639

-This guy makes bad days good. He is the sweetest, most playful puppy and he helps me take a step back sometimes and see how simple life is.

IMG_7683

That’s all I’ve got for now….I’ll be back later this week with the details on Rockstar Fitness™ Tour Edition AND with a fun conditioning workout to try!!

Peace out folks!

Things I’m Loving Lately, Workouts, and a Survey!

Woahhh! Long time no see, guys. Sorry for going MIA there for a few days. Life is BUSY right now and I’m just trying to ride the wave.

Things I’m Loving Lately

Track Workouts.

THISCLOSE to looking like when I run. WINNING. One of my 50m sprints this morning. It’s more of a love/hate. They absolutely kill me, but I’ve been getting up every Monday morning and heading out to the track for a workout. It’s nice to get out in the sun and wake myself up with sprints and bleachers. My go-to right now is:

4 x 100 meter sprints

4 x 50 meter sprints

10 bleachers

My legs shake so much when I’m finished that I have trouble pushing the gas and brake. Good thing I only live 2 blocks away. 🙂

This healthy chicken salad I made

This Chicken Salad was sooooo easy to make and sooooo delicious!!! Makes 4 Servings 2 cans White meat chicken in water 3 celery stalks 3 slices of red onion 1 small box raisins 2 dollops of Fage 0% Greek Yogurt Mash the chicken, chop the veggies, add the raisins and mix together. Then add the greek yogurt and mix it in. I added fresh cracked pepper as well. ENJOY!!

It’s SO simple to make, and absolutely delicious. Here’s the recipe (makes 3-4 servings):

  • 2 cans white meat chicken in water
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 small box of raisins
  • 3-4 slices of red onion, chopped
  • 2 dollops of plain greek yogurt (I use Fage 0%)
  • salt & pepper to taste

Mash up the chicken, and then add the rest of the dry ingredients. Mix it up, and then add the greek yogurt. Mash it all up again, and you’re DONE. It takes about 5-10 minutes to make this and then you have it on hand for a quick, healthy snack or part of a meal.
