Empty Stomach Morning Cardio

Well friends.. i did it! Ha…i know for many of you, this is a daily activity, but for me…i NEVER do early morning cardio on an empty stomach. I just am so hungry in the mornings that I just need to get something in me..do my strength training and then do my cardio afterwards.

This morning I woke up an hour before my alarm clock. I have a training appointment at 8AM….usually i get there early and just chill out on the elliptical or treadmill, but today, I decided, I’m going for a run! And i’m doing it on an empty stomach.

Now I love that I am like a dog or a toddler..however you want to look at it. I tell myself I am going to only do 30 minutes(i do this almost every time i go to do any type of cardio) and always end up doing much more than that. Today i ran for 55 minutes. I did a loop that I knew was going to be longer than a 30 minute run, but I told myself I would stop and walk the rest of the way…..Knowing that I wouldn’t do that. I really was going to stop and walk at around 45 minutes, but I was starving at this point, and I thought to myself “If i walk..its going to take me twice as long to get home and make some food…RUN!!” So i did.

Anyways that’s my story just thought I would share. It really did feel great to run outside again. It’s been over a month since I have done that and I always forget how soothing it is on the mind. I highly reccomend it.

Challenge: Everybody do at least 25 pushups today.(Doesn’t have to be consecutive…but do as many as you can consecutively and let me know how you did in my comment box!!)

Way to go on the run this morning.

You asked for my protein bar recipe. It's a clickable on the right side of my blog but I cut and pasted it for you below:

    Banana-Peanut Butter Protein Bars

    3 medium ripe bananas, mashed
    2 ½ cups rolled oats
    3 scoops protein powder (chocolate)
    1/2 cup raisins
1 tablespoon cinnamon 1 teaspoons nutmeg (I just put 1 1/2 tablespoons of cinnamon and omit the nutmeg, all what you like)
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (I prefer chunky)
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/3 cup splenda (I use 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup egg beater (or 1/2 cup egg whites)
1/2 cup skim or 1% milk
    1/2 cup applesauce

Preheat oven 300 degrees, spray cake pan with pam. Mix ingredients in a large bowl. Pour into cake pan cook for 45-50 mins. Let cool before cutting. Cut into 8 pie slices. Refrigerate, will keep a week or so.

    230 calories each

These are extremely filling and a much better alternative to store bought protein bars.

For a sweet potato/pecan version I just nuke an extra large sweet potato, scrape out the inside, mash, and add 1/4 cup chopped pecans instead of the banana and peanut butter.

If you like oatmeal you'll like them a lot I think, if you don't I still think you will like them ok. I make them every Sunday and eat them every work day for breakfast and sometimes an extra one if I'm on the go and need something quick.

If you're a purist you can always ommit the splenda, I have made them without (forgot it) and they still tasted good, the banana and raisins give it a good amount of sweetness.

I haven't tried a pushup since my gallbladder surgery. I couldn't do one before then but maybe I can now. I'll give it a try tonight. It's been a goal for me for awhile.
