Crossfit, Food, and Random LOL’s

Happy Wednesday people!

I had a late-ish night last night, so coffee was definitely necessary immediately upon waking up this morning!

Some of you may know that I’m also a sound engineer and used to work full time as a recording engineer in a studio here in LA. While I don’t do it full time anymore (obviously), I still do the occasional session. Last night I got to work with a pretty well known rock band (rhymes with shmimeshmown), so it was definitely worth losing a few hours of sleep. 🙂

My Day

I made this yummy breakfast to start my morning yesterday and it was so, so satisfying and delicious, so I thought I’d share! (If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen it.)

Open-faced egg white, turkey, and Ezekiel bread sandwich. Get in my belly!!!I highly recommend this bad boy.

  • Ezekiel Bread
  • 1 slice Mozzarella Cheese
  • 2 slices turkey breast
  • 6 egg whites
  • season to taste (i just used pepper)

After breakfast and getting some work done, I went to Crossfit again (I went last week for the first time in a while), and we did a really fun WOD!

So fun, in fact, that I completely ripped up my hands…..and still continued on to finish the WOD. #dedication or #stupidity?

Here’s what we did:

Strength
Back Squats: 8-8-8-8 (so 4 sets of 8 reps at about 75% of our 1 rep max)

WOD

  • Push Press: 7-6-5-4-3-2-1
  • Toes 2 Bar: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 (i did knees to elbow)

then

  • Box Jumps: 7-6-5-4-3-2-1
  • Pull Ups: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7

I was totally fine until the pull ups. And then this happened….

IMG_6878I guess it was bound to happen at some point! Now I just need to figure out how to get these bad boys to heal ASAP so I can continue with my regularly scheduled lifting. 🙂

I plan on taking today off from working out since my body is pretty sore. I have a busy day today with work and then back in the studio tonight, so it works out well.

Random things that made me laugh out loud this week:

IMG_6879IMG_6880Seriously, get me that Coach purse NOW. Can’t even tell it’s a fake…

Q’s:

1. What’s your favorite band? Mine is and has been 36 Crazyfists for about 10 years now

2. Have you ever ripped your hands open while working out? (any tips????)

NAMM 2014 + Fitness Plan for Week of 1/27

Hey guys! I’m back!! I took a brief break the last few days, as I was attending the NAMM show in Anaheim. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically a ginormous convention filled with all the instruments and gear you could imagine and then even more that you can’t imagine. It’s always a fun time, but it is exhausting!! My favorite thing this year was definitely this CrushDrums setup with the hardware designed by SawBladeHead Designs:

Somehow, Charlie and I didn’t take any pictures together all weekend. Oops. We got home Saturday night and basically made dinner and crashed. Being on your feet for 2.5 days STRAIGHT is really tiring.

Sunday morning I had a recording session with the Music Immersive. It is actually a really cool program. We had 11 people recording the music they had written that week with several top writers, and the talent always amazes me. We ended up working for 16.5 hours straight and I didn’t get home until 2:30am. My alarm Monday morning at 7am was not welcomed. Not one bit. Here’s a little clip of the studio and the band jamming. A long, but fun day for sure! (Sorry for the crappy vidoegraphy skills :-))

On to Fitness…

This past weekend while at NAMM, while I did walk for 2.5 days all day long (not included the mile each way to and from the hotel), I also managed to get this workout in on Saturday morning:

Tabata Fun!

Tabata Fun!

Quick, but good! This week, I plan on doing my usual thang.

Monday: Heavy Lift + 20 HIIT

Tuesday: 30 minute run + Bouldering

Wednesday: Crossfit or metabolic conditioning

Thursday: 30 minute run + Heavy Lift

Friday: Full Body Workout + Bouldering

Saturday: Paddleboarding + Yoga (my friend’s birthday party….she is too cool!!!)

Sunday: REST + Superbowl!

I hope everyone is gearing up for a great end to January! (How the HECK did that even happen, by the way?)

What are you looking forward to most this year?

Any fun trips or events planned?

I get to see my little brother for the first time in almost 3 years next month. It is pretty much the highlight of my life right now. Can’t. Freaking. Wait.

Crossfit + Dentist

Hey guys!! How are the last few days of “vacation” going? While I’m still working away, the traffic in LA has been SO easy. Can it always be a holiday week here?!?

Guys, the last night was roughhhhhh. My wisdom tooth starting bothering me a few days ago, and it kept me up ALL night with pain on Wednesday night. I woke up Thursday morning practically in tears and had my boyfriend call the dentist for an emergency appointment. Turns out it just got infected and they cleaned it out. I’m still a bit of a chipmunk, but the swelling is slowly but surely going away. Major crisis avoided! (For now..)

(Look at my cheek!!)

After my dentist appointment, I decided to go workout at Crossfit High Voltage. I just joined, and since my dentist is literally around the corner from the box, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to start. I headed over for my first workout: Cindy.

If you’re unfamiliar, Crossfit workouts all have names. It is kind of cool because you start to learn them and know what they entail. It is helpful to see how you progress too!

Cindy

AMRAP 20 (as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes)
5 Pull Ups
10 Push Ups
15 Squats

Surprisingly I was able to do most of the pull ups on my own, and what I couldn’t, I used a band for assisted pull ups. It was tough, but I made it through 6 rounds + 27 reps (3 shy of a 7th round!!!). Can’t wait to see my improvements in a few months!

Tonight I am in the studio with my boyfriend recording a drummer, bass player, and guitarist for some upcoming video. All in all, a really good day for me!! (Aside from the whole wisdom tooth debacle…)

Hope everyone is excited for the weekend!
Any weekend plans to close out the holidays??

Studio, Running, Bleachers

Happy Sunday Friends! It’s been a great weekend so far! It’s been filled with all of the things I love: music, fitness, and rest.

I started out this morning by making a kale smoothie….and then promptly pouring it into a glass of water. FAIL. I laughed it off….and drank it anyways. 😀

Let’s back up to yesterday….you may or may not know that I am a sound engineer. On my off time from my regular jobs, I try to make it into the studio to do what I love…record music.

Yesterday, I spent the day with my boyfriend at his recording studio. He’s recording/producing a really cool band this weekend, so I came to help out and hang. It was SUCH a fun day in the studio. The kind of day that I’ll always remember and that makes me realize why I got into music! Sometimes, you just get it right. There’s nothing quite as awesome as a good band, playing live together in the studio!

Moving on….the studio session went until about 2am, so getting out of bed today was a bit of a challenge. Around 10:30am, I was able to pry myself out of a bed to make a smoothie (see above), and set out for a run and some bleachers. I was able to get 3.1 miles in 25:50 and since the track is close to my house, I decided to stop by and do 10 sets of bleachers to finish off the workout. I feel great!!

To finish out my Sunday, I’m heading back to the studio for some more music making! Have a good one people!

What is your favorite way to spend your weekends?
