Fitness Weekend! {VIDEOS & PHOTOS}

Happy Monday!!

I started my morning off with some HIIT today! Starting off my week with fitness definitely helps me get focused. Especially since I was out of town this weekend and totally discombobulated from real life. 🙂

I’m going to get right to this weekend’s shenanigans. It was an amazing weekend with friends and fitness!

Last Thursday night, my friends and I drove out to AZ! One of my friends was running the Rock n Roll Marathon, and since my family is from AZ, we decided to go support her! Instead of writing all about it, I figured I’d like pictures and videos tell the story!

I spent some time with my family..

! !! #26.2 ! powered by plants !! Finished my 3rd marathon with a PR of 4:00:45. -- if I did not have to stop to poo - it would have been 3:55:00 ! Cut 17 minutes off my time from the last race in 2011:) I'm pretty stoked about that! Get your ass up and do something!! If I can run 26.2 miles then you can at least run 1 or 2!! ! Fitness is a lifestyle..join the movement!! Thanks to and for driving my ass to the race from Cali..and supporting me at the finish line!!

Torri set a new marathon PR…and Francesca and I walked a mile to meet her at the finish line..so that counts for something, right?!

Worked out at my favorite gym, Maximum Fitness with the master, Karl

Set some new PR’s at Bret’s (i’m pretty sure there is special PR Fairy dust in Bret’s garage….I always hit PR’s when I’m there!)

OH, and I can’t forget the #bootybump! Who needs a chest bump when you can booty bump?!

I had so much fun this weekend, but back to work it is!

Hope everyone had a great weekend themselves!

Question of the Day

1. Have you ever run a marathon or 1/2 marathon?

I did the AZ Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon a few years ago, and have thought about doing another, but right now I’m focused on my lifting.

Change It Up

While there are so many different exercises out there in the world, it can be really easy to fall in the rut of doing the same things over and over. Even if you’re changing things up daily or weekly, you tend to go through the same motions quite often.

Yesterday afternoon, my friend texted me to see if I wanted to work out with her after work. I had done some cardio that morning, but felt like doing something else since I’d been sitting most of the day. I didn’t necessarily feel like doing weights since I’d done a pretty intense crossfit/weight training workout the day before, but I wanted to do something that wasn’t cardio and that challenged me.

What I came up with combined strength, balance, coordination, stretch, and athletic movements. It was just what I was looking for!

Change Up Workout

Since this exercise was most confusing, here’s a video for it.

Single Leg Deadlift to Row:

If you get a chance to try this, let me know! You will feel your legs and butt working and I guarantee you’ll sweat. Best of all? It’s a total change from what you’re most likely doing (although maybe not!). Either way, give it a whirl and have some fun!

**As with anything, make sure you speak with your doctor/naturopath/mom/dad/WHOEVER, before starting a new fitness routine. Honor your body and injuries and if anything ever hurts, STOP. Recognize good pain vs. bad pain. This is  not to be intended for beginners and is only a recommendation. I am not a doctor or physical therapist, just a personal trainer spreading the good word. 😀

Hamstring Fiyah!

Hey guys!! Sorry my posts have been so sporadic. I’m moving to Los Angeles on Saturday, so I’ve been tying up the loose ends here.

I’m finally getting over the horrendous cough I had. It’s been a week and  a half, and I’m finally able to work out again as of Sunday. I’m still coughing a little bit, and my ribs are sore, but I’m not going to complain. It’s funny how sickness makes you appreciate your health so much more!!

I haven’t been able to do much cardio, since my lungs are a little pre-occupied with coughing, but I’ve done some. Aside from that, I’ve just been watching what I eat and getting in my weights. I haven’t done much plyometric work either, and I’m excited to get back to that, hopefully next week sometime. I don’t want to push it and end up sick again!

This is the hamstring/glute workout I did yesterday. It had me sweating like crazy. I’m not sore today, surprisingly, but it was a great workout!

Leg Workout

Deadlifts: 95 x 15, 95 x 15, 115 x 12, 135 x 8, 135 x 8

Superset of:

DB Step-Ups: 20 x 15, 20 x 15, 20 x 15

Quadruped Hip Extension(one of my faves): 20 x 12, 20 x 12, 20 x 12

45* Hyper: 10 x 15, 10 x 15, 10 x 15

I finished with 20 minutes on the elliptical to cool off and move my legs around 🙂

Enjoy! Let me know if you try it and what you think. (Of course, use weights that are appropriate for YOU.)
