Underestimating Yourself + Weekend Fun

I am a resource.

I live and breathe health and fitness. And by that, I don’t mean that I am 100% healthy all the time or that I’m the fittest person on the planet. I mean that my world literally revolves around health and fitness. My jobs are all health and fitness related, I personally do my best to stay healthy and fit, and it happens to be what interests me most in this world. So when I say I live and breathe it, I mean it.

With that said, I tend to underestimate myself at times. Forgetting that I’ve been studying, learning, and DOing this “stuff” for almost 10 years. I still have plenty to learn, and am constantly challenging myself to learn more, but I DO know a lot and I tend to forget that sometimes. For me, it’s common knowledge. It’s no different to me than knowing my couch is black and tan. And sometimes I forget that it isn’t that obvious to most people. That is no fault of their own, and as long as they’re willing, I take those opportunities to teach.

I think a lot of us do this. We forget that what WE know is very valuable. Because it’s such a common knowledge in our world, we tend to underestimate what we have to share with others.

It’s the reason I started training clients again. I LOVE teaching others, I love showing them how they can achieve their goals, and it helps ME continuously learn, learn, learn. I’ve been training myself and learning from other world-renowned fitness professionals for YEARS, and now I’m getting to learn by training my own clients and learning it from a whole other perspective.

Because of this, I’ve started sharing more and more fitness tips that I think would be useful for others on Instagram and Facebook. Those things that I felt like “everyone knew”. And I urge you all to ask more questions. I’ve always been a curious person, and whenever I’m unsure, I always ask. Any of my trainers would tell you, I constantly had questions. “why am I doing this?, what does this do? Is this the best way to do it?” and then I would experiment on my own too. So all of this to say, USE ME. Ask me questions. Get my advice.

I’m HAPPY to share! You can e-mail me [email protected] or message me on Facebook! I’m always listening! (well, Charlie might say differently but…you know :-D)

I encourage you to stop underestimating yourself as well. Share your knowledge. Somebody (or a lottabodies out there might really need it!)

Ok, onto more exciting things…

WEEKEND FUN

This weekend, I taught boot camp, played baseball, and lounged. It was great! Instead of talking about it, here are some photos….

Question of the Day:

1. Why do you do what you do? Whether it’s for work, a hobby, etc.

FitLizzio Experiment UPDATE + Weekend Fun

Hey, HEY!

How’s your Monday treating you?

Mine is quite divine if I may say so! I LOVE productive Mondays because they set the tone for the week.

I trained a client early this morning, got my own workout in, and then got started on work. It’s a busy time for us right now, so I’m being very diligent about keeping lists and calendars to make sure I get everything done on time.

FitLizzio Experiment – Day 20

Guys, I am almost done with the 21 Day Clutch! It’s been a really fun experience and I can’t wait to give you a FULL recap (progress photos and all) this week!

IMG_8526 IMG_8527

Remember when I said I didn’t really like the workouts? Well, I’ve been getting more accustomed to them. They’re still not my favorite way to push myself, but I’ve come to enjoy them. I’ll likely continue to do them once per week when I’m finished with the program.

Which brings me to my next thought: Sticking with something. It’s interesting to me how my attitude towards the program has morphed over the last 20 days. I’ve gone from super stoked, to somewhat bored, to seeing results and getting excited, to wondering how to incorporate this way of training into my regular training schedule. Total 180, right?!

It proves that even though something might not SEEM like the right thing, if you stick with it, it might just become something you like. While sometimes that won’t be the case, it is something I will keep in mind going forward.

This is by far my favorite part about doing challenges. I love learning new things and seeing what I’m capable of doing. I love finding out more about myself. It’s amazing how much we don’t know! You always hear that you learn about yourself when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, but it’s a really hard concept to grasp until you do it. I haven’t pushed myself outside of my comfort zone in far too long when it comes to working out, so this was really fun and motivating.

Look out for a post in the next few days for #allthethings related to the first installment of the FitLizzio Experiment: 21 Day Clutch.

Weekend Fun

This past weekend, my friend Torri and I launched Rockstar Fitness™ Boot Camp! Quest Nutrition was our sponsor and it was SUCH a fun day! Our class went really well and everyone loved it! I can’t wait for next Saturday!

Our OFFICIAL Mascot: Oscar the Boxer

Our crazy group!

The rest of the weekend wasn’t quite as exciting, but was just what I needed: time with my pup, time with my man, and relaxation.

We went to breakfast at IHOP on Sunday morning (and of course, we brought Oscar).

IMG_8512

We followed that up with coffee, of course, and then decided to hang out by the pool for a bit.

It was a perfect day outside!

Afterwards, we went and saw Spy with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham. SO funny! I love MM and both Charlie and I really enjoyed it.

We came home and watched a few episodes of Better Call Saul (we just started it…so far so good!) while we ate dinner, and then I was so exhausted that I headed straight to bed.

THE END.

Question of the Day

1. What do you LOVE about boot camps?

2. What do you HATE about boot camps?

Memorial Day Weekend + FitLizzio Experiment Update

Happy Hump Day friends!

This week seems to be flying since most of us had Monday off. It was nice to have a few days without any real responsibilities!

Saturday was spent running errands, working out, and taking Oscar to not one, but TWO different dog parks. He’s one spoiled pup!

Oscar and his girlfriend Hope.

On Sunday, Charlie joined me for a workout and then we tackled unpacking the rest of our boxes from moving, and getting our apartment a bit more organized. It feels sooooo much nicer now!

Sunday evening, we headed to Charlie’s friends house for a Memorial Day party. He has a few dogs, so we brought Oscar. He had a BLAST running around with the other dogs and picking up people’s scraps of food throughout the night. They had live music in the living room, tons of food, and a good mix of people. We loved the live music, but Oscar was not into it and stuck with us the whole time they were playing.

Oscar sitting on Charlie’s lap.

Since I’m doing the 21 Day Clutch, my diet is a bit limited. I ate before we went and then ate a hamburger patty with ketchup and mustard while I was there. I waited until I got home to eat the rest of my dinner. (update on the FitLizzio Experiment below).

MONDAY

Monday was technically a day off, but I had a few things on my agenda.

I headed over to an oral surgeon’s office first thing in the morning to have a consultation about getting my wisdom teeth out.(yes, i still have them, hence all the wisdom ;-)). Unfortunately they’ve been bothering me a bit lately, so I’ll be having them removed in about 2 weeks. Eek!!!

After my appointment, I got a quick workout in before training a client at the gym. Once I was done, I headed home to relax with my boys for the rest of the evening.

Fit Lizzio Experiment Day 8

So far the 21 Day Clutch has been going pretty well! I have been sticking to the diet for the most part (had a few minor slip ups), and have stuck to the workout portion 100%. I feel good and am seeing changes, but I do have some initial reactions from my first full week on this.

1. I don’t like this style of working out very much. While the workouts kick my butt, they aren’t “fun” to me like my normal workouts. It’s getting me out of my comfort zone and all, but I definitely DO NOT look forward to them. Oddly enough, I don’t mind the HIIT sessions, but the “lifting” sessions (i use parentheses because it isn’t really lifting. there are some weights involved, but most of it is bodyweight) just aren’t my thing. It’s a LOT of exercises and a LOT of sets and it just gets old quickly. This is why I’m such a big proponent of finding something you like, because I can totally see how hard it would be to stick to this long-term, seeing as I don’t enjoy it very much.

2. The diet is a little too skimpy. I mentioned that I needed to bulk it up a bit for myself, but if someone was doing this without that type of knowledge, I feel it could be a problem. She recommends 1g of Protein per pound of bodyweight, which is fine, but only .5 g of Carbs per pound of bodyweight. For me, that would mean 75g of carbs per day. That is just nowhere near enough. I need at least 150g at a minimum.

3. I do like the HIIT sessions. They last about 25 minutes and go by pretty quickly. I’ll probably incorporate these into my workouts even after the 21 days is over.

Overall, so far I do like this program and I think it’s a good little reset/ass-kicker. However, I’m reallllly excited to get back to my normal heavy lifting. I’ve done a couple of sets of heavy hip thrusts and deadlifts here and there (because I just can’t stay away), but for the most part I haven’t done any heavy lifting. Either way, it’s only 21 days and it’s definitely a good “push” for me to work hard and grind. It’s exactly what I needed right now, so I’m glad I’m doing it.

Hope you all have a great rest of your day!! See you soon!

Weekend in Park City + Rockstar Fitness™ Workout!

Good morning!

I promise I’ll be back to a regular blogging schedule soon…just trying to figure this whole “life balance” thing out. Know what I mean? 🙂

This past weekend, I flew up to Park City to hang with my bestie! We’ve literally been best friends since we were in 2nd grade (I hated her before that haha), and since I’ve lived in LA, we haven’t really gotten to spend too much quality time together. Since she just moved up there, I figured it was the perfect time to fix that!

IMG_7854

I had never been to Park City (or Utah in general), so I was super excited about this trip!

The people in Park City and SLC are SO nice. It was such a nice stop-ed-info of pace from LA. The views were GORGEOUS, and it even snowed a little bit on Sunday!

IMG_7878

We ate good food, laughed, did some yoga at her store (lululemon), and just had a blast getting to know the city. I can’t wait to go back!

Weekend Things + Booty Building Exercises!

Hey Friends!

I hope your Monday is off to a great start! I’m not quite ready for the weekend to be over, but what can ya do?

Weekend

Friday night, we went and saw one of the bands Charlie worked with at the W in Hollywood. I had never been there, and it was pretty cool! The event area is on the 12th floor, so the views were amazing!

IMG_7765

Saturday morning I headed to Temescal Canyon with my friend Tedi to catch up and sweat a little. It was hot out and we didn’t have a ton of time, so we only went about half way up and turned around to come back down.

IMG_7772

I sat on the couch and ate lunch/snacked a bit while watching Dick Van Dyke,

001-the-dick-van-dyke-show-theredlist

and then got up the energy to go do a Chest workout.

I got home, showered up, and took a nap. I’ve been extremely exhausted lately and although I’m not usually a napper, I’ve been trying to sneak them in more often. Not being rested has so many bad effects on the mind and body, so I’m trying to be better about getting enough of it. If I’m unable to get enough hours of sleep during the night, I’m working on finding 20-30 minutes to nap at some point in the day.

IMG_7752

Shots, Shots, Shots!

Anyone ever gotten a B12 shot? My friend’s friend just opened up a clinic where she does all kinds of vitamin shots and IV’s. I went in last Wednesday and got a B12 + MIC shot. It’s supposed to help keep my energy up. I’ve actually felt a lot better since, and I ended up buying a package of 4 more. I’ll give me full opinion on how well I think it works (or not) after I use up all of my appointments. They suggested that I go in once a week and that the consistency helps, so we’ll see!

My Favorite Booty Building Exercises

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post for Chrissy at  Snacking in Sneakers. It’s a topic that I’m constantly asked about, so I thought I’d share it here, too! Check out my Top 5 Best Butt Exercises for Building Glutes!

New blog post is up on FitLizzio.com. I'm on my soap box today talking about how you can stop saying I CAN'T....and start doing more than you thought possible....link in profile.

1. What’s your favorite booty exercise?

2. Least favorite?

Valentine’s Day Weekend Recap! {Photos}

I’m not usually one that’s big on Valentine’s Day, but when it falls on a Saturday, it’s just a good excuse to spend time together and do something fun!

Charlie told me we had plans on Saturday (V-day), but didn’t tell me what we were doing. We ran a few errands, hopped in the car with Oscar, and headed north. Traffic sucked, but after a few hours, we arrived in Santa Barbara! I’d never been there, so it was a really nice surprise.

We stopped for food first (obviously) at The Natural Cafe. It was actually the first place we saw, and we decided to try it. It was SO SO good. I got a chicken/veggie/rice dish and it was amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked and I devoured it.

IMG_6568After lunch, we walked down to the beach for a bit.

IMG_6581We let Oscar walk on the sand for a minute and just as we suspected, this is what happened:

He is such a goof! Sand is like his kryptonite. It makes him nuts!!

This led us to the main event of the day. Yes, our valentine’s day revolved around our dog. We headed to Douglas Park, which is an off-leash dog park located on the beach in Santa Barbara. It was gorgeous there and Oscar had a BLAST running around and playing with the other dogs. Here are some photos from the park:

IMG_6585

Frolicking on the beach.

IMG_6600

Oscar trying to play with another boxer puppy.

IMG_6610

Dirty pup after running through sand and murky water for HOURS.

Oscar had a BLAST running around. He was terrified of the ocean water, but him and a few other dogs found a big body of stagnant, murky, muddy water and ran through that for a while. Just lovely, right?

IMG_6588We ended the day with a coffee and a nice sunset before heading back down to Santa Monica.  Oscar was tuckered out by the time we got home.

Last Oscar photo...but seriously...is he not the cutest dog ever

Questions:

1. What did you do for Valentine’s Day?

2. What’s your favorite V-Day candy?

Mine is definitely conversation hearts.

Baby Shower Fun + Nutrition & Workout Update

Hey Friends!

How’s your Monday going so far? Mine is going well…just working away!

I got up this morning and did sprints on the treadmill. I was seriously dragging this morning and was texting my girl Maggie to send me motivational quotes to help me through. She had some real words of wisdom haha!

magtext

In the end, the thought of coffee got me through. It’s funny how 20 minutes can seem so daunting at the same time. Whatever, I did it!!

Weekend:

This weekend, Charlie and I attended a baby shower for my old boss. It was quite the extravagant party, and it was really good to see my old co-workers. I miss them and the family!!

Baby shower fun!

We posted this picture up on Facebook and immediately realized that everyone thought WE were pregnant. Just to be clear, this is our only child…

Asked him to come lay down WITH me. He decided to lay ON me instead. The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful. We did a chest/plyo workout on Sunday, but other than that it was naps for me and work for Charlie.

Nutrition Update:

So far, I’m loving working with Sohee as far as my nutrition goes. It’s nice to be eating on a fat loss plan without being constrained to chicken, vegetables, and brown rice. I love those things and eat them almost daily, but I also eat candy and chicken sausage and Kombucha on the daily. It all fits in the plan, and that is awesome. 😀 I’m feeling good!

Workout Plan for the Week:

Monday: 20 min. HIIT (done) +  Shoulders

Tuesday: Legs

Wednesday: Back & Abs

Thursday: HIIT + Chest

Friday: Legs

Saturday: Rest

Sunday: Full Body

That’s the plan, but as always, I’ll change things up if I need to. It all depends on my soreness and energy levels. I always try to make the best decision for that day, so it’s hard to say for sure.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week! I’ll be back tomorrow!

Shattered

No, I’m not talking about the Rolling Stones song…

I’m talking about my iPhone. Yesterday morning, I was running across the street with Oscar and it flew out of my pocket.

Luckily, I was able to upgrade and just $400 later (ugh…), I’m back up and running with a new iPhone 6! Woohoo!

apple-iphone 6 - 16gb-space gray-450x350(I totally wanted to take a picture of my ACTUAL new phone but it’s impossible. :-()

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that the weekend was craziness! I attended my 5th NAMM show. NAMM is a ginormous convention that basically every music, gear, and instrument company attends, in addition to a bunch of musicians, engineers, and the like. It’s a super fun time, but you basically spend 3 days on your feet.

This year I tracked it on my phone and between walking around the convention for 3 days, and the countless trips to and from our hotel (which was 1 mile away), I walked 19 MILES this weekend. That is INSANE!!! I couldn’t believe it. My calves are still screaming at me.

It was a great weekend, but I really missed this little guy!

He woke up like this.I call this Gremlin Mode.

Workout

Yesterday, I did a tough leg workout. I’ve been doing full body routines lately, but decided to change it up a little.

Hip Thrusts 185x12 for 3 sets.

I did:

  • Barbell Hip Thrusts: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Seated Band Hip Abductions: 3 sets of 30 reps
  • Prone Hamstring Curls: 3 sets of 15 reps
  • Leg Extensions: 3 sets of 12 reps
  • Box Jumps (24 inch box): 2 sets of 10 reps
  • DB Step Ups: 2 sets of 10 reps
  • Burpees. ( I’ve started incorporating 3 sets of 10 burpees with 30 second rests in between at the end of some of my workouts. It’s a good way to “burn out” a bit and end the workout sweating. )

That’s all I’ve got for today. Nothing too exciting, but then again my life isn’t all that exciting.

(Although I did get a haircut and new color that I’m obsessed with!! Don’t mind the giant pimple on my chin.)

Love my new haircut and color. Thanks to Nicole at !!!!!

Question of the Day

Have you ever tracked your steps at a convention? How many steps did you take?

Fitness Weekend! {VIDEOS & PHOTOS}

Happy Monday!!

I started my morning off with some HIIT today! Starting off my week with fitness definitely helps me get focused. Especially since I was out of town this weekend and totally discombobulated from real life. 🙂

I’m going to get right to this weekend’s shenanigans. It was an amazing weekend with friends and fitness!

Last Thursday night, my friends and I drove out to AZ! One of my friends was running the Rock n Roll Marathon, and since my family is from AZ, we decided to go support her! Instead of writing all about it, I figured I’d like pictures and videos tell the story!

I spent some time with my family..

I did the AZ Rock n Roll 1/2 marathon a few years ago, and have thought about doing another, but right now I’m focused on my lifting.

Weekend Fun w/ Oscar + Not A Lazy Sunday Workout {video}

I am really loving the weather lately in Santa Monica. It’s slightly chilly, yet still not “cold”. I realize it doesn’t get REAL cold here, but I’m from Arizona, so to me it gets freezing!! Right now, it’s perfect sweater weather.

Life with Oscar is pretty awesome, too. We love this dog SO SO much and are so happy to have him in our lives.

dogfam

I could cuddle with this guy all day….

cuddlingwithoscarThis weekend was a random mix of all kinds of activities! We packed a lot in, but I still feel like I relaxed too.

Saturday morning, Charlie and I did a recording session with eight 9-year old girls! My good friend runs a fantastic day camp called Sand Sisters. They do all kinds of activities like paddle boarding, yoga, crafts, and singing songs at the recording studio! It’s an amazing program designed to get the kids outdoors and using their hands to create. They work on self image, empowerment, and bonding with their “sisters”. If I was a kid, I would definitely be in this camp!

We brought Oscar to the studio with us and weren’t sure how he’d do with a bunch of kids running around. Turns out he LOVED it and totally wanted to partake in all of the action.

oscaratstudio

That evening, we wanted to go see Interstellar, but we didn’t plan ahead and it was basically sold out everywhere we went. Bummer! Instead, we ate dinner at home and watched reruns of The Office. I lasted about 10 minutes and crashed out on the couch.

Sunday morning, we headed out to watch some football. Chiefs won, woohoo! After the game, it was time for a workout!

Not a Lazy Sunday Workout

3 Supersets of the following:

-Medicine Ball Thrusters + Plank Walks

-In/Out Bench Jumps (video below) + Kettle Bell Swings

-Kettle Bell Cleans + Kettle Bell Snatches

Finisher: 3 sets of: 10 Squats + Sled push + 5 Push Ups + Sled Push

Pardon my awkward face at the start of the video. I’m confused a lot 😀

This was a really great full body workout! We were exhausted by the end of it.

After we showered up, it was Oscar’s turn for a workout. We took him to the dog park for the first time and OMG, he had a blast! That dog runs SO fast. He had so much fun playing with the other dogs. We ended up staying there for almost 2 hours. We finally headed home around 6 so we could make dinner and relax. I peaked in the back seat about a minute after we left the dog park and this is what I saw:

oscarafterdogparkClearly, he got some energy out!

Hope your weekend was great, too! I’ll be back tomorrow!

Question of the Day

1. Do you workout with your significant other? Why/why not?

2. Do you let your dog sleep in bed with you?

We only let him come in when invited….we swore we wouldn’t at all when we got him, but he’s so damn cute we just can’t resist!
